Fibres-Dupont-Kavlar
DuPont DUPONT Kavlar Aramid Fibre
Product Description:
Kavlar is a new type of aramid fibre composite material developed by DuPont - Para-Aramid 1414, this aramid composite material was formally commercialised in 1972 and registered trademark for this product as Kevlar - Kevlar.
Kevlar material due to low density, high strength, good toughness, high temperature, easy to process and shape, but the density of only one-fifth of steel (Kevlar density of 1.44 grams per cubic centimetre, the density of steel 7.859 grams per cubic centimetre), and by people's attention. Kevlar brand product materials are tough and wear resistant, rigid and flexible, with a special ability to cut and shoot. In the military it is called "armour guard".
Kavlar only starts to decompose at around 500℃ and can be used continuously at 220℃. It has good resistance to dilute acids and alkalis and only a small degree of degradation occurs when it is placed in the solution of strong inorganic acids and strong inorganic alkalis. Excellent resistance to mould and ageing, good abrasion resistance, prolonged exposure to sunlight (ultraviolet rays) causes ageing, but the fibres protect themselves.
Material properties:
1. high strength and high modulus: have very high strength, specific strength is about 5 times that of steel wire, higher modulus than even carbon fibre;
2. low density: 17% lower than carbon fibre, only 1.43 to 1.45, which gives it a significant advantage in aerospace;
3. excellent high temperature resistance: working range -190~260℃, long-term temperature resistance 240℃;
4. thermal stability and refractoriness: decomposition starts only above 500°C, heat resistant and flame retardant, ultimate oxygen index Loi > 28;
5. excellent fatigue resistance, anti-static: able to resist the erosion of long-term stress and environmental factors to maintain the stability of its performance;
6. good resistance to acids and alkalis
7. good dimensional stability: low coefficient of expansion, excellent dimensional stability.
Application areas:
Aerospace satellite structural materials, military bulletproof vests and bulletproof helmets, naval armor protection plates, resin-based composites, automobile tire cord, high-end skis, golf clubs, F1 racing helmets, fiber optic cables, textile processing, plastic reinforcing materials, ropes and so on.
Product Model:
1. Kevlar-K29: Standard modulus with moderate strength and modulus for general reinforcement and protection applications.
2. Kevlar-K49: High modulus, high strength, high stiffness version for harsh environment reinforcement applications.
3. Kevlar-K49AP: Specialized version, "AP" stands for Advanced Performance, for more demanding applications.
